Local Baltimore business owner Alex Delsordo has recounted what one of his employees witnessed when a major bridge in Baltimore collapsed.

“One of our employees ... was sleeping on his boat and heard an incredibly loud noise that he compared to a rumbling train,” he told Sky News Australia.

“He went back to sleep – three o’clock in the morning, he got phone calls from all the local fire departments saying that ‘we’re on our way, we need the fuel’.”

Mr Delsordo said it was the multiple phone calls which woke the employee up and led him to go outside, down the dock, to where he witnessed the “incredible disaster”.

“It’s a scene out of a movie. It’s horrifying ... you can’t describe other than it’s just devastation, pure devastation,” he said.
