The United States Pentagon leaks “raises an awful lot of questions” about the process of the United States intelligence and the consequences, says University of Sydney Political Scientist Professor Simon Jackman.

“I’m sure Biden and his national security team have just been on the phone offering reassurance to allies around the world,” Mr Jackman told Sky News Australia.

“It’s been obvious to anyone looking that the US has so penetrated the Russian order of battle … an unprecedented intelligence advantage, the idea that’s been compromised at this incredibly delicate stage … is just a hammer blow potential, and the idea it was done so cavalierly,” he said.

“These documents have been in the wild for some time and someone so relatively junior had access to materials of that sensitivity and that breadth and was able to get them out of a secure facility and get them online, it raises an awful lot of questions, both about process … but also assessing the consequences.”
