CLASSIC BRITISH u0026 GERMAN EASTER TREATS: SIMNEL CAKE u0026 PLAITED LOAF// Happy Wednesday, Only a few days until Easter so today we want to share how to make a traditional Easter Simnel Cake which is very popular in the UK. We have never made this cake before so it will be interesting to see how it turns out. Then we make a plaited loaf (Hefekranz) which is extremely popular in Germany for the Easter holidays. RECIPE 'OSTERKRANZ (PLAITED LOAF)':

Ingredients
500g flour
7g dried yeast (or a cube of fresh yeast)
80g sugar
1 egg
220ml milk
5g salt
1 egg u0026 a bit of milk for the glaze

Method
Mix yeast, salt, sugar, milk, butter and egg together and knead.
Cover the yeast dough with a wet cloth and let it rest in a warm place for about an hour until risen.
Split the dough in portions of about 40g. You need 3 strands for each wreath as you have to make braids.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Line a baking tray with baking paper, mix the egg with the splash of milk and brush the Easter wreaths. Bake for about 20-25 minutes.
